Homework/Reminders/Info:
We had a meeting regarding oratoricals yesterday. The students will present their poems during class time on May 7th. At this time, two students from each class will be selected to present their poems at the Oratorical Competition May 13. If you have any questions (before Friday) contact me at the school or email at carlammcisaac@esdnl.ca. From Monday on, Ms. Hickey will be back.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
We will have a movie (”Babe” I believe) in the afternoon on Thursday. I will bring popcorn, but if students wish to bring a small, personal snack that is fine. If you have any concerns regarding the movie, please contact me through email at carlammcisaac@esdnl.ca or call me at the school. Thanks so much.
Carla

Homework/Reminders:
Students will not have music tomorrow as the Gr. 1 classes are rehearsing for their Spring Concert. Our class will watch the rehearsal from 1:30 - 2:15 tomorrow afternoon.
Homework/Reminders:
Dismissal is at 11:40 tomorrow. Just a reminder that I still have time available to meet for Parent Teacher Interviews if you would like to schedule a meeting.
Homework/Reminders:
Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day, so remember to wear green!
Homework/Reminders:
Some students forgot their Fruit & Vegetable Challenge forms today. I will send them in on Wednesday so please have them in by then if your child forgot. Thanks very much.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
This week is Education Week. The theme is “My Place” and the grade 4 classes are focussing specifically on “I Can Make a Difference in my World”. We will be decorating our classroom door, so if any of the students find newspaper or magazine articles, information or photos on the internet that would support that theme, they may bring them in and we’ll put them up. Wednesday is ‘Career Dress Up Day’; students can dress as what they want to be when they grow up. Thursday is ‘Rainbow Day’ and when everyone wears as many colours as they can to represent the diversity of our world.
I have posted the times I am available for Parent Teacher interviews on Optis, so please book a time which suits you. If you need to meet on a day other than Thursday March 18, let me know and we’ll schedule for another day.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
We were using Ivory soap today to carve ’soapstone’ Inuit art. Some of the children felt itchy afterwards. I apologize if anyone has had an allergic reaction to the soap. I thought it was non-allergenic. Each piece is now in sealed plastic baggies. I will have non-latex gloves for the students if they would like to continue working on their piece. (They seemed to really enjoy it though)
Students have a note in their agendas that there will be swimming on Friday. This is an error on my part. The next swimming session will be March 12 from 10:30 - 11:30.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
We visited the book fair today. Some books were sold out, but students could order them. Books on order should arrive at the school by next Friday. We will visit the book fair again on Thursday - some students did not bring money today, therefore they made a ‘wish list’ and may make purchases on Thursday.
On Thursday, we will begin boarding the bus around 9:00. Students swim from 9:30 - 10:30. Students not participating will remain at the school, supervised, with work supplied by their classroom teacher. The vending machines will be off limits, however, the students may eat their recess snack when we return to the school if they wish. Our return time should be around 11:00 at which time we will continue with regular class work.
Homework/Reminders:
All grade 4 classes will have a Olympic Commotion music practice at 10:40 tomorrow (right after recess). They will need their recorders. Our Phys Ed time will be at 8:55 for tomorrow only to accommodate the music practice.
Homework/Reminders:
I had questions regarding the definitions for Health - the 29 definitions are covered over two sheets in the exercise book: the straw-coloured Definition Match sheet and the Definition Crossword. The students also have the labelled Digestive System in their exercise books. I apologize for the confusion - I wanted to include all the information needed for review in the exercise books so they wouldn’t have to carry home their textbook as well.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Janeway Lifestyle Program have a contest to encourage healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle. Each student took home an activity booklet that serves as a contest entry form as well. Forms should be returned the week of March 15 to 19. One student from each grade and school district will be selected to receive a prize package valued at approximately $50 each and the winning student’s school will receive a $25 gift certificate to be used towards school supplies. The winners’ names will be noted in a newsletter as well.
Have a good weekend everyone. Please email me at carlammcisaac@esdnl.ca if you have any questions over the weekend.
Homework/Reminders:
The poem presentations days have been scheduled. To curb the number of students not prepared on their given day, I have instructed them that they may change their day, however I will take one mark off their score for each day they delay their presentation. I explained to them they have a month to practice, so they should be ready. If there are extenuating circumstances, please let me know by email or a quick note in your child’s agenda. Thanks.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
Students will bring their Health exercise books home tomorrow to review Digestive and Urinary Systems. We will also review this unit in class.
We are keeping track of the Olympic Medal standings for Canada and for Italy. I heard a number of students were able to stay awake for the entire opening ceremonies - they did far better than me! They seem very excited and interested in the Olympics and that is wonderful to see.
Swimming has been cancelled this Friday. An extra date will be added to the end of the schedule to make up for the cancelled session. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or the office. Thanks.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
Our Star of the Week next week is Noah. We will begin planning and preparing our flags, banners, signs etc for the Olympic Commotion assembly next week. Work will be done at school, however if some students want to make something at home as well, that is great.

Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
The February calendar went home today. I apologize for not including birthdays this month - I didn’t realize Ms. Hickey usually does this. The Grade 4 classes will be swimming instead of skating; stay tuned for the schedule.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
Thank you so much for the Hats for Haiti donations today; I don’t know what the school’s total was, but I thank you for your generosity.
Carla
Homework/Reminders:
Some students have brought home their yellow Social Studies folders to complete their C.B.S. unit by Friday - we have started our next unit on Nain and I would like to be able to take their completed unit out of the folder and replace it with the new unit.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
I had a question about when the Italy posters needed to be brought to school - I don’t yet know an exact date for the assembly, but it will be towards the middle of February. We will be making signs, posters, banners, flags at school, but if your child wants to make something at home that is fine, though it isn’t assigned.
Homework/Reminders:
Homework/Reminders:
With the cold dry weather we’ve been having lately, I’m noticing students are more frequently thirsty. Having a container of water on their desk would allow them to get a drink whenever they need it and would help lessen interruptions throughout the day. Please send me a note or email if you have concerns or questions about this. Thanks so much.
