Homework Week 4: October 19 - 22
Bonjour! This week we are learning the sound “é” pronounced “eh”.
This week:
School is closed for students on Friday, October 23 for teacher professional development. Recycling will be postponed to next week.
Please remember if you need to come into the school building, parents/guardians need to get a Visitor’s button from the office first.
Thank you!!
Homework activities:
1. Language:
In the green homework folder, we are continuing to practice the page of Halloween vocabulary. Please have your child practice identifying these objects (en français). The folder is to be returned EVERY FRIDAY MORNING.
In the sound booklet, please practice the last two pages with your child this week. Please also review all the previous pages as we will be beginning our new sound booklet next week. I suggest practicing the out of order so that it is not only done from memory of the song. Your child should now be more comfortable with the sound blends and be able to identify most of them fairly consistently. The Friday morning classroom “dictée” over the weeks to come will focus on these sound blends from our sound booklets.
2. Reading:
This week’s little book (petit livre) is “Halloween.” We will practice reading this book every day in class as well as at home. It is very important for your child to bring the “J’aime lire” folder to school every day with the 2 baggie books in it. He/she will bring the folder home each night. Please record on the log sheet only those books your child reads in French with or without your assistance at this time.
For each night that your child has his/her books, here are some suggested activities:
P Start by doing a picture walk: “walking” through the book and looking at the pictures, trying to understand what the book is about.
P The next time you read, try to find any words with the sound “é” in them, or “a” or “u”, etc..
P At this stage it is important for your child to learn to point to words and try to say them based on the picture and beginning sound. Try to do this on the third night.
P On the fourth night, try reading the book start to finish.
3. Math:
Some suggested activities are as follows:
a. With your child, collect sets of 11 to 20 objects (for example, 12 stuffed animals, 16 envelopes). Have your child count the objects. Ask: “How many are there in each set (groupe)?”
b. Play “I Spy,” giving the number as a clue: “I spy with my little eye, something that has four legs.” Your child might guess “table” or “chair.” Switch roles.
Have a great week!!!
